U10 Gold wins Mass Hockey State Championship!

Congratulations to AHA’s GIRLS U10 GOLD team, which captured the Massachusetts Hockey Girls Tier IV State Championship with a thrilling shootout victory over Milton yesterday afternoon at the Waltham Veterans Memorial Rink.

The girls began the tournament with a Thursday night tilt against the Lady Crusaders of Worcester. Morgan Beasley led the way with a natural hat trick (including scoring less than 10 seconds apart in the first), Mabel Corning piled on some insurance, while Jacklyn Macero, Ava Winsor, and Catherine Delaney added helpers and Brooke Bond got the win between the pipes for the 4-1 final.

After an off-day Friday, the Warriors were back at it pre-dawn on Saturday morning for a matchup with the always tough hosts from Waltham. This one went to overtime, with Lori Chen scoring the game winner and Bond pitching the 1-0 shutout.

The Warriors then had to face a talented Milton squad on Saturday afternoon, taking it on the chin in a 6-1 loss. However, by virtue of their earlier victories, the ladies were assured of a spot in Sunday’s championship game, which was a rematch against Milton who had won all of their round robin games previously.

In the grudge match, the teams battled back and forth all game long. Beasley scored the regulation goals (with assists from Rose Farnum) for Andover. The game was knotted at two at the end of regulation and once again we went into overtime, and then finally a shootout. In the end goals from Winsor and Beasley and stellar goaltending by Bond sealed the victory, and the title, for Andover!

Congrats to head coach Steve Silverthorn, assistants Scott Corning and Steve Winsor, and to all parents, families, and friends who made it a memorable weekend and a great season so far. Good luck to the girls, will now focus on closing out their season on a high note and competing for a VHL championship!
